2024 STAC Volunteer of the Year Award – Valerie Girard

STAC Volunteer of the Year Award

Valerie Girard

Valerie Girard is an implementation manager for the Connectivity and Infrastructure department at Northwestel, where she manages the Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) portfolio including the dismantlement of obsolete telecommunication towers and environmental land remediation in Northern Canada.

A two-time Women of STAC Bursary Fund recipient, Valerie has worked hard in recent years to grow her career in the telecommunications industry through additional training and education, and in 2022 she parlayed these efforts into completing a move from Northwestel’s OHS team to her current position.

Valerie has also been a tireless and exemplary volunteer on the Women of STAC Committee and its many initiatives. She is an active participant in both the Women of STAC membership project team and its communications project team, and has also worked to help support various Women of STAC events and functions. Most notably, Valerie spent much of her time at the STAC 2023 Conference & Exhibition volunteering at the Women of STAC booth, where she helped attract new members to the committee and shared info about the committee with other conference attendees.

Valerie is also a member of multiple STAC committees, including those dedicated to workplace health and safety, RF safety and contractor qualifications.

For her untiring efforts to the Women of STAC Committee and the whole STAC community, we are thrilled to award Valerie this year’s STAC Volunteer of the Year Award. Please join us in congratulating her and in thanking her for all her efforts.

The STAC Volunteer of the Year Award is provided annually to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to STAC projects or activities through volunteer service during the course of the membership year.
