STAC Volunteer of the Year Award

Blair Bittner, P.Eng.

Blair Bittner, P. Eng., is the National Engineering Services Manager at WesTower and a respected leader in the Canadian telecommunications industry. With more than 29 years of field and engineering design experience, Blair has played a crucial role in shaping industry standards, mentoring engineers, and improving structural analysis and reinforcement processes for communication towers across the country.

Since joining WesTower in 1996, Blair has held numerous positions, starting as a warehouse laborer before working his way through roles in tower construction, rigging, site inspections, and engineering. His extensive field experience—spanning everything from erecting 500-ft guyed towers to inspecting 1,800-ft broadcast structures—has given him a deep understanding of both the practical and technical aspects of the industry. In 2005, he transitioned into engineering, where he quickly became an invaluable leader in tower analysis, design, and reinforcing. Today, he oversees a team of engineers, ensuring consistency in national engineering standards and facilitating efficient project delivery for carriers and clients alike.

Blair’s contributions to STAC have been equally impressive. Most recently, he played a leading role in the development of a critical STAC document on the use of DTI washers in the Canadian tower industry—a follow-up to a previous project he helped lead on the turn-of-nut method. His efforts to improve documentation and industry best practices have directly enhanced safety and efficiency within the sector.

Beyond his professional achievements, Blair is passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers, sharing his knowledge with both engineering teams and field technicians. He is also an active participant in workplace safety initiatives and IT improvements within WesTower. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and golf in the summer, as well as hockey and snowshoeing in the winter.

For his outstanding contributions to STAC and his dedication to advancing industry knowledge and safety, we are proud to recognize Blair Bittner as the recipient of the 2025 STAC Volunteer of the Year Award. Please join us in celebrating his achievements and thanking him for his efforts.

The STAC Volunteer of the Year Award is provided annually to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to STAC projects or activities through volunteer service during the course of the membership year.
