Vandalism of Power Transmission Tower in Western Canada

This notice is to alert members that STAC has learned of a reported act of vandalism against a power transmission tower in “Western Canada” in early December – about a month before the first of two similar incidents targeting communications towers in Alberta.

According to information obtained by STAC, “multiple” guy wires were cut at the vandalised site and “numerous bolts were removed from the base of the structure.”

It is not believed that anyone was injured as a result of the damage.

STAC is sharing this information as a precaution in light of other recently reported incidents of tower vandalism.

All STAC members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with STAC Bulletin SB-0006 Potential Vandalism of Communications Infrastructure and to remind their crews to be diligent in conducting their pre-climb inspections.
