Statement regarding inadvertent partial opening of the AVAO BOD FAST buckle

Petzl released the following information on October 10 with regards to a report from a customer that an AVAO BOD FAST leg loop buckle had come partially or totally open without the user having released the locking button. (Click on the images below to view the notice in PDF format.)

While Petzl has confirmed through testing that the harness remains safe even when both leg loop buckles are partially open – or when one of the leg loop buckle is entirely open – the company has asked STAC to distribute this communique to all STAC Members. Petzl has also informed STAC that it will provide a French-language translation of this document in the days ahead, which will also be posted to the page.

Though Petzl has not identified any actions required relating to this issue, STAC encourages companies and their crews to inspect any AVAO BOD FAST harnesses in their possession to identify whether this issue may affect their gear. If concerns arise from this inspection, we strongly encourage you to contact Petzl directly to inquire about recommended actions or remedies.

Please ensure your crews are aware of this issue if using the AVAO BOD FAST harness.
