Cogeco Inc. has bought $8 million worth of the 2500 MHz paired spectrum band from Kian Telecom Inc., according to a Thursday press release.
The licenses cover a population of over 1.5 million people in non-metropolitan areas of Ontario. The deal was approved by Innovation Canada Thursday.
The company, which is the only Canadian publicly-traded telecom without a wireless division, adds to the $24.3-million worth of spectrum it acquired in May in the 2300 and 2500 MHz bands, which covers a population of about 5.5 million in Ontario and southern Quebec.
However, the company wouldn’t divulge its intentions for the spectrum, as evidenced by a recent conference call with analysts following its qualification for the aforementioned auction wins.
