BCE Inc. has announced a new partnership with Honda Canada inc. to provide in-built Wi-Fi hotspots in newly-manufactured cars.
The hotspots, billed as “Bell Connected Car” will be installed in new-model Honda and Acura-branded cars (Acura is Honda’s luxury brand). They will operate on Bell’s 4G LTE network, and cover an approximately 50-foot radius around an equipped vehicle, supporting up to seven devices.
To use the hotspots, car owners will also need to be Bell customers: a three-month, three-gigabyte trial of the hotspot is included, after which a data plan is required.
A press release announcing the project calls the Bell-Honda partnership an “extension” of a similar program with AT&T Inc., which has provided in-car hotspots since 2017. Bell is the first Canadian telecom to work with an auto brand in this capacity.
